The steel industry is the largest CO2 emitting industry in Japan’s industrial sector, and among them, drastic CO2 reduction is required as a measure against global warming in the steelmaking process by the blast furnace method, which emits a large amount of carbon dioxide. Japan’s steelmaking technology is already at the most advanced level in the world, and energy saving by using waste heat and by-product gas has reached the limit. Therefore, an innovative steelmaking process is required to realize CO2 reduction on a global scale. Technology development is required.
COURSE50 is being developed by four domestic steel-related companies on behalf of NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization).
